The endorsement comes after Orgill states on his campaign website he is “not supportive” of the measure.
Village Laguna, an organization that has its roots in the opposition to construction of high-rise buildings, is endorsing Mark Orgill’s candidacy for city council.
Village Laguna has been one of the strongest proponents of Measure Q. Orgill, a real estate investor and developer responsible for the building of Sunset Cove Villas on Sleepy Hollow Lane, the Seven Degrees event Venue, and Laguna College of Art + Design Residence Hall is “not supportive” of Measure Q and seems an unlikely match for their endorsement.
One of the missions of Village Laguna as stated on their site is “to preserve, enhance, and celebrate the unique village character and cultural heritage of Laguna Beach.” Their support of Measure Q aims to do just that.
Orgill has many ties in development and has stated that if he is elected, he’d like to see the development of a tourism management plan, but no details of what that would entail has been forthcoming.
The pairing of the two seems like a match of the odd couple, and residents are suspiciously taking notice. Other candidates challenging Orgill for one of the three vacant seats on the City Council are Ruben Flores, Jerome Pudwill, Alex Rounaghi and Louis Wells. Incumbents Peter Blake and Sue Kempf hope to serve second terms.
