The supervisor marched for abortion access in Orange County.
Recently, Democrat Orange County Supervisor Kartina Foley rallied with supporters at a Planned Parenthood march, asking them to organize and vote.
Foley, who is up for re-election against Republican Pat Bates, has been an outspoken leader against the recent supreme court abortion ruling in June, calling it a “cruel and unconscionable act.”
“Great turn out in Orange County last night. Now let’s turn this outrage into organizing. We the people have the power. We just need to organize & vote,” tweeted Foley.
Last year, Foley flipped a seat on the five-member Orange County Board of Supervisors in a special election, which some said was only possible due to three conservative-leaning candidates splitting the Republican votes.
This rally is not Foley’s first advocation for abortion rights in the state. The supervisor has not only been endorsed by organizations such as Planned Parenthood and NARAL Pro-Choice America, but she previously served on the boards of Planned Parenthood San Bernardino and Orange Counties.
As an “advocate for access to women’s reproductive health services” since her time at UCLA, Foley’s claim that her support for the pro-abortion movement is to help keep the county as “a safe place for women seeking reproductive care.”
“I will do everything in my power to ensure Orange County remains a safe place for women seeking reproductive care and work to prevent government intrusion of our personal liberties,” the supervisor released in a statement.
“As Californians, we have an opportunity to protect reproductive freedom by enshrining these freedoms directly into our State Constitution in November, and I pledge to support legislation like Senate Constitutional Amendment 10 (SCA10).”
