Laguna Beach Seeks To Regain Control of Southern Shoreline

Laguna Beach City Council is now making a push to regain the south Laguna Beach shoreline, including Aliso Beach, Laguna Royale Beach, Thousand Steps Beach, and more.

Will the majestic Laguna Beach regain control of its southern shoreline? Well, some residents are pushing for a take back of the southern Laguna Beach shoreline that used to be theirs. The City Council of Laguna Beach is pushing for this agenda, and seeking to see if a change in ownership of the southern shoreline would help the management of the beaches in that area. Locals in Laguna Beach believe that under the current management, the southern shoreline of Laguna has been totally mismanaged.

Under the management right now, locals have pointed out that beach goers have resorted to cliff diving, trespassing, public urination, and parking violations. Since Laguna and other OC beaches attract more people, spikes in traffic have happened on those beaches in the southern shoreline. With the mass flow of people, locals have noticed an uptick in mismanagement and have wanted Laguna Beach to take action.

To provide some background, in 1987, Laguna beach annexed Southern Laguna from Orange County. Under this new plan, Laguna Beach leaders would want to gain all of Orange County’s beach in the limits of the city,

The Laguna Beach expansion plan would also expand the management to the beaches of Aliso Beach, Camel Point Beach, Laguna Royale Beach, Table Rock Beach, Thousand Steps Beach, and West Street Beach, as well as Aliso Beach County Park. This would add about 11,000 feet of expansion. The reported cost of the expansion is looking to be around 2.2 million dollars.

Laguna Beach officials have been confident in their lifeguards and have also wanted to send down lifeguards to those beaches they are trying to reclaim control of. With this plan to expand the Laguna Beach territory, it remains to be seen, does the regain of the Southern Shoreline by Lagune Beach make the beaches cleaner?

Will those beaches see less trash & filth?
