Candidates for California’s 72nd Assembly District Diane Dixon (R) and Judie Mancuso (D) to Face Off

The two candidates have been in a tight race with the winner still yet to be determined.

The newly redistricted California 72 has become a large coastal district which includes communities in parts of Garden Grove in the north, stretching south to include parts of Laguna Niguel and Lake Forest in the east.

The district is being hotly contested by Diane Dixon (R) and Judie Mancuso (D). In the primary held on June 7, Mancuso narrowly beat one of her Republican challengers, earning just 779 more votes than Dixon.

Dixon, a current Newport Beach city councilmember and former mayor, said she promises to “work with my colleagues to make crime illegal again in California.” Her approach to crime means she’d like to see amendments or revisions to bolster California’s current crime laws. She’s also concerned about inflation and gas prices. Dixon has voiced her willingness to work across the aisle with moderate Democrats to address her economic concerns for California.

Dixon’s key issues are, to make crime illegal again; address the California affordability crisis and provide tax relief for Californians.

Mancuso, who is the founding member of a nonprofit focused on advocating for people, animals, and the environment with legislation. Her top priorities if elected are fighting climate change and combating pollution; public health care and public safety. Mancuso says she looks forward to working alongside Democrats to combat environmental issues and address public health and safety concerns. She has also stated her support for women’s rights and standing against racism and hate in Orange County.
