Laguna Beach high school student Nicolo Cambruzzi is seeking to raise money for a shoe drive in order to help children experiencing homelessness.
“At the bare minimum, children should have the basic necessities,” Cambruzzi told the OCDE Newsroom. “The goal is to help kids feel more confident so they can focus in school. I believe having new shoes to start the school year will help.”
The Orange County native’s current mission is focused on raising enough money to buy 65 pairs of shoes for students living at Colette’s Children’s Home in Huntington Beach. However, this is not Cambruzzi’s first stride in giving back to those in need.
Being able to grow up in Laguna Beach gave Cambruzzi an abundance of opportunities, however, while his parents wanted him to enjoy life, they also wanted him to understand that not everyone is as fortunate. Attending volunteer events at a young age with his mother to serve children experiencing homelessness inspired the now 17-year-old to do more.
What started out as a fourth grade assignment in 2015, Cambruzzi ended up creating an organization called A Good Foundation. The organization believes that “every child should be provided the basic needs necessary to enjoy their youth.”
Since its’ creation, Cambruzzi has helped lead the organization to collect clothes and pajamas for underserved children in Orange County, toys during the holidays and even stretched his generosity outside the United States to the Dominican Republic.
“I am very proud of Nico’s desire to make even the smallest impact on the larger problem of homeless youth,” Cambruzzi’s mother said in response to her son’s efforts. “If his sneaker campaign brings a smile to even one child, then I would consider his efforts to be a success.”
